Millennials, the adults aged 18-34, are the largest generation in America, with more than 92 million. For any vacation management company or owner of a vacation rental, it is essential to market to and fulfill the needs of this group. Nearly three quarters (75%) of Millennials have used a vacation rental service like Florida Beach Rentals or Airbnb. This number is significantly lower for Generation Y, and even less for Baby Boomers.
These are some tips to make your vacation rental more attractive to Millennials:
- Recent surveys have shown that Millennials will pay more to rent a property if it has automation technology. Many Millennials use automation technology in their daily lives, including voice-activated lighting controls, voice-activated music, voice-controlled HVAC controls, remote keyless entry and direct to-house check-in. They expect the same services when looking for vacation rentals.
- Modern generation wants everything to be simple, quick and easy. Bookings are no exception. Millennials don’t want to call VRM’s or book rentals. They want it easy and quick. It is important that at least one unit of your inventory is available for immediate bookings. This allows you to book units in a matter of seconds.
- Mobile-friendly websites are essential. Mobile devices are the primary method of searching the internet and making purchases for most Millennials. This is also true when renting vacation homes. Your website should be easy to navigate, your pictures bright and clear, as well as easily scrollable.
- Millennials love to travel in groups and have fun. Rents should be made to accommodate larger groups. This includes pullout sofas, bunk beds and open living spaces that encourage socializing.
